It is very important to study the Buddhist philosophical system of the past。 However, if we only study the teachings of the past, it is impossible for Buddhism to relate itself to the actual conditions of the contemporary world。 In studying Buddhist thought that people of the past believed, it is important, not just to interpret texts from the past, but to attain one’s own existential awareness of it。 In this way, “Buddhism” as a living religion and “Buddhist studies” which is its academic study, become united, and the Buddhist philosophy of the past develops in the present world。

It is necessary to develop Buddhist education by bringing together in a fundamental way the past and the present。 This is the way in which the future of Buddhism can be assured。
