After its spread to China, Buddhism readapted to the local climate and culture, and allowed a new set of rules and regulations to be established in order to provide monastics a place to live and practice. Confronted with the changes of time, do these rules require further adaptation to suit modern day monastic lives? For thousands of years, several Dharma lineages have survived despite multiple persecutions of Buddhism, added with the support and propagation by eminent masters, the continuance of Buddhism has been enabled. Modern Buddhist groups have established various organizations and institutions consisting of monastic or lay members. Some even established their own schools and orders inside forests or urban areas, each holding different views on the ways of practice and the fundamental spirit of Buddhism. Thus the change of generations amongst talents in Buddhism has become a topic of study here.
